Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control etc.

Adding things that per Volvo spec your ABS pump cannot 'support'

Without replacing the hardware (vddm), only installing the software can also be realized.

It can. Tested on couple cars.

I enabled it on my car and so did Power6, so yes we know it works. I guess my point here is; why do Volvo insist on different ABS pump? There is obviously a reason, maybe a risk of high mileage failure. They beefed up the operation etc. who knows!
It's very much a use at your own risk item.

It's good to keep in mind that Volvo does require that upgrade of the hydraulic unit, until about 2020 sometime when this "upgraded" hydraulic unit became standard on the cars with traditional brake system. But it must be mostly hardware, as the software does work! If you purchase this upgrade through VIDA, it will not load if the upgraded hydraulic unit is not installed (luckily I was able to get a refund ;-))

One strange thing is that the Pilot Assist upgrade doesn't seem to be available from Volvo on MY2021 cars and newer (at least not the V60 and XC60 B5 petrols). These cars apparently have the upgraded hydraulic unit and the Pilot Assist is available from the factory, so I can't see why it's not (officially) available as a retrofit.
Anyone know what would have changed in MY2021 that would stop them offering it? It doesn't tie into the change to Android Automotive, that came later on the V60.

My guess is the 'chip shortages' mean some components are missing.

Could be, it would match the time of shortages becoming an issue. Although I assumed that BLIS (which I have) would require all the same hardware as Pilot Assist.

Could be hardware missing I suppose. It's also up to Volvo whether they want to sell and support it as an upgrade, they could have changed their mind on it as an accessory install.

I've assumed the front camera and RADAR in the box at the top of the windscreen is all that has been needed for PA. All the safety systems need those, at least what we get standard in the US.

I have an early model P2, so no fancy equipment on mine. (I still need to get my driver's side airbag replaced under the recall.)
